Live by Example

Weekly Bible Study #18
Last week we there was some shocking news that most of you are already aware of. Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying was arrested for attempting to hire someone to kill his wife, whom he is going through a divorce with. I started out hoping it was not true because he has always seemed pretty intelligent, and I have always had a respect for Tim. We may never know what is going on inside his head, but we can still pray for his family, and for Tim that he find his way back to the Lord. So in light of these recent events I want to discuss living your lives as examples.
First lets have a little grammar lesson:
If we were to break down the word “Christian” we would end up with the root “Christ” and the suffix “ian”. Now obviously we all know Christ is the Son of God, so the root needs no explanation, however the suffix “ian” means ‘one from, belonging to, relating to, or like’. So that means the word Christian means “Like Christ”, literally a Christian is someone who is like Christ, belonging to Him.
Now lets look at a few scriptures that illustrate this to us.
Matthew 5:16 (KJV)
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
1 Peter 2:21 (NKJV)
21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:

“Who committed no sin,
Nor was deceit found in His mouth
