Superbowl Sunday – Feed your spirit, not just your face
Weekly Bible Study #5
Over the weekend some of you may have attended Super Bowl parties. Now while I am not a fan of sports by any means, I am very much a fan of food. I would assume we all fed ourselves pretty well.
We must not forget to feed our spirit as well, because just like our bodies, our spirit needs food, and that comes in the form of God’s Word.
Matt 4:4 (NKJV)
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
If your body starves it will become weak, and the same goes for your spirit. The flesh and the spirit are constantly at war with each other and similar to sports, only the stronger will prevail. The best way to feed your spirit is to spend time reading God’s Word, as it is referred to as living water.
Here’s another passage that clearly lays this out for us.
Galations 5: 16-18 (NLT)
16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. 17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. 18 But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses.
I really like how this passage from Galations clearly lays it out for us to understand.
How are you feeding your spirit?
