Temptation – Always a way out
eekly Bible Study #4
This week I want to read to you a few scriptures regarding sin and temptation. Some of you may struggle with temptation at times and it can get to where it seems there is no way to resist. But God tells us otherwise. This first scripture is from Romans 6:15-18 and speaks of being a slave to whatever you choose to obey, who wants to be a slave to sin? Luckily it is our choice, this is from the New Living Translation:
15 Well then, since God’s grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not! 16 Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living. 17 Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you. 18 Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living.
Now this next scripture may come as a surprise to some, but here Paul tells us that God will not allow us to be tempted beyond our capacities.
1 Corinthians 10:12-13
12 If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. 13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
In short Paul tells us that there is always a way out, no matter what the devil throws at you, you can be rest assured you ARE capable of resisting and overcoming it.
