Worry Revisited

00

Weekly Bible Study #25
This week I want to revisit something we talked about back in January. One thing many of us are all too familiar with is worry, its so easy to become so consumed with your worries that you begin to sink into a bottomless pit of worry. Lets see what God has to say about worry, I’m going to be reading from the amplified version so its going to be loud.

Matthew 6:25-34 (AMP)
25 Therefore I tell you, stop being perpetually uneasy (anxious and worried) about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink; or about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life greater [in quality] than food, and the body [far above and more excellent] than clothing?

26 Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father keeps feeding them. Are you not worth much more than they?

27 And who of you by worrying and being anxious can add one unit of measure (cubit) to his stature or to the span of his life?

28 And why should you be anxious about clothes? Consider the lilies of the field and learn thoroughly how they grow; they neither toil nor spin.

29 Yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his magnificence (excellence, dignity, and grace) was not arrayed like one of these.

30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and green and tomorrow is tossed into the furnace, will He not much more surely clothe you, O you of little faith?

31 Therefore do not worry and be anxious, saying, What are we going to have to eat? or, What are we going to have to drink? or, What are we going to have to wear?

32 For the Gentiles (heathen) wish for and crave and diligently seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows well that you need them all.

33 But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.

34 So do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own. Sufficient for each day is its own trouble.

Notice the emphasis on how important we are? If God takes care of the flowers and the birds truly how much more do you think He will take care of us and provide for us. As humans we tend to have our own way to deal with problems and more often than not, our own way just makes things worse. All the while God is spiritually tapping you on the shoulder saying “Hey, why don’t you let me take care of that?”

Its all a matter of letting go and allowing God to take over. Its so easy to watch your bills pile up and think to yourself “What am I going to do?” And anyone whos done any amount of worrying probably knows by now that the more you worry the more stressed you get and the more hopeless it begins to seem, because worry is really a big hole that we continue to dig for ourselves, or better yet its more like quicksand.

You step into that worry-trap and if you calm down, take a step back and let God jump in the ring then things will be alright, but if you keep on freaking out and going crazy over things then no doubt just like quicksand your going to sink faster and faster. For just as we see in Psalms:

Psalm 55:22 (NKJV)
22 Cast your burden on the Lord,
And He shall sustain you;
He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

And finally I leave you with this scripture

John 14:27 (NKJV)
27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
